received my absentee ballot in a plain envelope and opened it up this weekend and got my ballot and a couple of HUHs caught me by surprise:
1. the ballot office subset, if it only had one candidate running, did not provide a space to write someone's name in for the office? only the following ~ president, commissioner of labor, Bd of educations - at large, and soil and water distr super had write in spaces??
2. the mail back envelope i am to return my ballot is blazing across the front in bold, capital letters that this envelope is
official election balloting material
3. the back of the mail back envelope has
1) my full name with address affixed by a label,
2) subheadings: a) address voter's certification statement, b) witness certification, c) alternate not-witness certification, d) second primary or runoff request, and finally e) annual request for sickness/physical disability.
3) each segment requires individual signature AND physical address entered
raises the following:
1. thought voting was a private endeavour
2. how in the world do i ensure my envelope arrives to the election headquarters?
3. how in the world do i ensure the names and addresses off the back are not copied for spam, etc. purposes?
oh, there is a block for board approval? what the devil is this concept?
personally, Monday i am personally going to the county board of elections and hand them my envelope.
to add insult to injury...i have to pay for the OFFICIAL envelope's postage!! to quote Chief Thunderthud ~ Cowabunga!
