Goodbye & Good Riddance

Goodbye, and good riddance, to 2016. You cost me two of my newest friends, but those two friends were two of the best the world had to offer. Don Litten & Paul Henick (respectively, peter nap & skidmark), I know you two can't read this, but I miss you both, you pair of cantankerous bastards, I hope y'all are still causing trouble together

Mas

I was perusing the magazine section of the store this afternoon and came upon a Massad Ayoob article on open carry. He listed 5 OC accounts of guns being stolen or other things. Most were pretty bad examples. Neighbors strapping on and confronting other neighbors and such. Also the open carrier that was stolen from and followed the perps into the gas station and was killed. All in all was a pretty unprofessional article from him in my opinion.

The New Year - with many expectations

May the New Year be as rewarding as we wish. Lots of work yet to do, but there is some light at the end of the tunnel - a glimmer perhaps, but enough to keep me motivated.

Be safe out there and enjoy. Remember old friends - lift your cup of kindness to them.

Go mbeire muid be oar an am seo aris!
May we be here this time next year.

The New Year - with many expectations

Oh, yeah! A Hot Topics thread is up!

I can't tell you how often I've logged in here over the last year only to see that no Hot Topics thread has been active since the last time I logged in, which, over the last year, has been of much longer duration (less than 1 in 5) since that of previous years (at least 4 in 5).

Not that I actually want a Hot Topics issue to rear its head every time I turn around, so, perhaps I should be grateful...

Regardless, the problems with crime that we continue to experience continue to be a problem for precisely the same reasons, at least partially:

A. By far, there's not enough armed law-abiding citizens compared to the criminal population as a whole.1

Thankfully, I think a lot of these issues lost steam after Black's judgment in Alamogordo. I think they lost more steam after Heller and McDonald. I think they lost even more steam after the 2012 election, where the American electorate made a significant switch, not only to having conservatives in both the House and Senate, but more towards that in many state governments, as well. That trend continued in 2016, to the point where we have the most conservative majority of elected and appointed representatives in each and every office throughout America ever except one: The top 1,000 most populous city mayors. Liberals still hold a majority in that area, almost certainly due to Bloomberg's concentration effort (million$ if not billion$) in his Mayors against guns effort.

The most interesting this about that effort is that despite the fact that population size only correlates with gun violence across the top twenty to fifty cities, all 1,000 of them surged. Obviously, a lot of citizens of even the bottom half of that 1,000 list identify with the largest ones with the most problems.

Quite frankly, I don't know why. If I lived it a big city, I would not EVER aspire to have anything to do with any of these categories:

Category 1: The Most Dangerous Cities in America (KARE 11, Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN, October 1, 2016), by Violent Crimes per 1,000 and 2015 murders (strangely enough by violent crime, first, and only then by murder rate):

1. St. Louis, MO: 1,817 / 188
2. Detroit, MI: 1760 / 295
3. Birmingham, AL: 1,746 / 79
4. Memphis, TN: 1,740 / 135
5. Milwaukee, WI: 1,596 / 145
6. Rockford, IL: 1,583 / 19
7. Baltimore, MD: 1,536 / 344
8. Little Rock, AR: 1,485 / 32
9. Oakland, CA: 1,442.5 / 85
10. Kansas City, KS: 1,417 / 109

Category 2: The Most Dangerous Cities in the United States (WorldAtlas, 2016) (Violent Crimes per 100,000 people for cities with over 250,000 people):

1 Detroit, MI 1,988.63
2 Memphis, TN 1,740.51
3 Oakland, CA 1,685.39
4 St. Louis, MO 1,678.73
5 Milwaukee, WI 1,476.41
6 Baltimore, MD 1,338.54
7 Cleveland, OH 1,334.35
8 Stockton, CA 1,331.47
9 Indianapolis, IN 1,254.66
10 Kansas City, KS 1,251.45

This list roughly agrees with the previous one, so let's proceed to the third, which measures MURDER (Neighborhood Scout, 2016)

The countdown for the Top 30 Murder Capitals of America:

Rank City
30 Chicago Heights, IL
29 Baton Rouge, LA
28 Buffalo, NY
27 Hattiesburg, MS
26 East Chicago, IN
25 Birmingham, AL
24 Desert Hot Springs, CA
23 Compton, CA
22 Myrtle Beach, SC
21 Fort Pierce, FL
20 Harvey, IL
19 Bridgeton, NJ
18 Flint, MI
17 Rocky Mount, NC
16 Pine Bluff, AR
15 Petersburg, VA
14 Newark, NJ
13 Baltimore, MD
12 Harrisburg, PA
11 Jackson, MS
10 Wilmington, DE
9 Trenton, NJ
8 Riviera Beach, FL
7 New Orleans, LA
6 Camden, NJ
5 Detroit, MI
4 Gary, IN
3 St. Louis, MO
2 Chester, PA
1 East St. Louis, IL

No additional details given.

1This is a change from what I've previously said. However, I've since identified a very decided difference the ratio of (A) armed law-abiding citizens to (B) armed criminals with respect to both the per capita rate of violent crimes and murders. Thus, we can definitively state two near iron-clad axioms at this point:
1. States where the ratio of (A) armed law-abiding citizens to (B) armed criminals is higher will have a distinctively lower per capita rate of both violent crimes and murders.
2. States where the ratio of (A) armed law-abiding citizens to (B) armed criminals is lower will have a distinctively higher per capita rate of both violent crimes and murders.

Given the fact that these correlations are not only strong, but are using rates based not on everyone in the entire population, but those individuals in the population who are either actually using firearms to commit or to stop crimes, these statistics very strongly support, in Kennesaw, GA style, measures to adequately arm and fully train your average law-abiding citizen.

Questions about open carry and magazines

Hello I am new to open carry. I have a couple questions about of laws. Are we allowed to carry loaded magazines in our pockets? Or do they have to be outside the belt in mag pouches to? And the last question just to make sure because I can't find anything online, is it OK to have my pistol loaded, cocked, and locked on my hip OC?

Is open carry a FIRST Amendment Right?

How so you ask? I'm making a statement.

What is it? Don't mess with me.

If burning and walking on the Flag is protected by the First Amendment, why not a Firearm?

Way off base? Any legs to stand on?

I'm mulling it over and thinking of including this idea into my conversation with people that approach me about open carry, but would like to get a handle on some of the possible pitfalls that might come up. So, don't be afraid to tell me what you think, like this group needs any encouragement.

Will Trump use CA DMV records to ID illegals?

Many of those who received driver’s licenses under the law now fear they’ll become deportation targets if federal immigration authorities can access their DMV information, despite assurances from state officials that it won’t happen.

http://ift.tt/2ioOxeB

I think President Trump will be a one term president by choice (just due to age).

And he was never seen to be part of the normal GOP membership.

So why not use DMV records of CA to ID illegals and deport them? Its not going to hurt the GOP (if he is concerned about the idiots in the GOP).

And totally within his authority as president ~ don't need congress to get involved in enforcing laws that they already passed.

And CA officials that obstruct it? Toss 'em all in jail.

Milwaukee man LAC-CCW walking dog shoots, kills would-be robber.

Deonte M. Thomas, 17, of Milwaukee was shot to death and his 18-year-old companion was wounded, police said. The 36-year-old man had a concealed-carry permit. The incident happened about 10 p.m. in the 6500 block of W. Euclid Ave. when the two robbers were driving around looking for a possible victim, Ald. Mark Borkowski said.

The day the Soviet Union died. The 25th anniversary of the fall of the Soviet Empire

On Christmas Day 1991, Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev picked up a pen to sign the document officially terminating the U.S.S.R. It had no ink. Mr. Gorbachev was obliged to borrow a pen from the [TV] crew covering the event, a fitting end for the unelected president of a country headed for the ash heap of history.

Czech President Vaclav Havel called the fall of the Soviet Empire “an event on the same scale of historical importance as the fall of the Roman Empire.” We should not let this, its 25th anniversary, pass without remark or reflection.

As a visibly bewildered Mr. Gorbachev tried to explain why he had failed to save the Soviet Union, he spoke of a “totalitarian” system that prevented Soviet Russia from becoming “a prosperous and well-to-do country.” But he failed to acknowledge the role of Lenin, Stalin, and other Communist dictators in creating and sustaining that totalitarian system.

Stun gun lawsuits claim bans violate constitutional right to bear arms.

Five states and several cities outlaw possession of stun guns, even for self-defense. But such bans could fall by the wayside in the coming year as Second Amendment advocates ramp up court challenges against jurisdictions that deem the weapons illegal.

What resulted in the flurry of lawsuits challenging bans on stun guns was a Supreme Court ruling in March that cast doubt on the legality of a Massachusetts ban on ownership of the devices. The ruling did not overturn the ban but rejected arguments invoked by the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts, in which judges ruled that stun guns were not protected under the Second Amendment because they “were not in common use at the time of the Second Amendment’s enactment.” The case was sent back to the lower court, where the charges ultimately were dropped.

Tradititionally, we have met at River City Diner on Parham Rd. before disending on the General Assembly Building.

Normally, RCD opens at 7:00am but the meet up time at the GAB has been moved up to 8:00am, so time will be tight.

Alternately, I and others will likely head to Hardee's just a few blocks away up the road from RCD at 3201 Parham Rd (Parham & Staples Mill Rd)
Meeting at 5:30am (they open at 5:00) will give us plenty of time to eat and get to the GAB, park and group up there by 8:00am.
Take your pick between the two locations but do eat somewhere - the Bell Tower event will possibly delay lunch.

Remember to carry a handgun in the GAB you must have a permit or license recognized by Virginia.

"Rumor" in the aftermath of Va Tech shooting

mardi 27 décembre 2016

I commented on an article on theatlantic.com that asserted the "experts agree" that increased background checks are the most effective way to keep guns out of the wrong hands. I pointed out that all recent mass shooters had passed (or avoided) a background check. A guy with the username "Smart Adze" took issue with the Viriginia Tech shooter (Cho) having passed the check. He said he'd been "in the community" at the time, and that "rumor had it" that Cho passed the background check because a "gun rights advocate" had blocked Cho's psych flag from being registered in the background check system. Has anybody else ever heard this alleged rumor? Is it really "a thing" or this guy just a dingbat?

I challenged him to provide more details about this rumor, but he just reiterated what he claimed to have heard. So I referred him to the Governor's Report and quoted the causal factors in that report. (Needless to say, a nefarious gun rights activist thwarting the proper functioning of the background check system was conspicuously absent.)

Anyway, this guy's handle should've been "Dumb Adze" because he insisted on arguing about things on which we agreed, ignoring issues about which we differed, didn't know how NICS worked or the different factors that go into it, and kept repeating how he used to be a libertarian until the shock from this tragedy caused him to re-evaluate his beliefs (irrelevant). His ignorance did nothing to dissuade him from having a very strong opinion, and he obviously had to have the last word even though he had nothing useful to add, so eventually I walked away from the exchange. But if, for everyone who read the comments, I managed to debunk the "rumor" about an evil gun rights activist undermining the government, I guess I'll call it a tactical victory.

As Mr. Hall said, "This is an important analysis for any practitioner." Of course, he's talking about criminal defense lawyers. But, the value of the information still holds, even for open-carriers.

A new theory for why Trump voters are so angry, from UWM Prof. Kathy Cramer ...

... author of The Politics of Resentment: Rural Consciousness in Wisconsin and the Rise of Scott Walker (Chicago Studies in American Politics, March 23, 2016)

"But if you’re wondering about the widening fissure between red and blue America, why politics these days have become so fraught and so emotional, Kathy Cramer is one of the best people to ask. For the better part of the past decade, the political science professor has been crisscrossing Wisconsin trying to get inside the minds of rural voters.

Well before President Obama or the tea party, well before the rise of Trump sent reporters scrambling into the heartland looking for answers, Cramer was hanging out in dairy barns and diners and gas stations, sitting with her tape recorder taking notes. Her research seeks to understand how the people of small towns make sense of politics — why they feel the way they feel, why they vote the way they vote."

Former New York gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino is facing backlash on social media for a racist remark about first lady Michelle Obama published Thursday in a Buffalo alt-weekly publication.

Paladino's remarks drew near-immediate backlash from officials and many social-media users in western New York, some of whom called on him to give up his school board seat.

Paladino, who was honorary co-chair of President-elect Donald Trump's New York campaign, was one of a few dozen prominent Buffalo figures surveyed by Artvoice for an end-of-the-year feature on their hopes for 2017.

Liberals' bad faith in North Carolina "bathroom bill"

jeudi 22 décembre 2016

Even this liberal "news" article fails to hide the dirty dealing of the liberals on this issue.

It was the over-reach of Charlotte Democrats that started this whole brouhaha. Liberals passed a city ordinance mandating that private businesses allow men to use the women's and girl's restrooms and locker rooms and also allow women to use the male facilities. The State level law was a protection of private property and religious freedom rights against local infringements. I personally think the State law is poorly worded. Current medical or legal gender would be a better standard than birth certificate gender. But the State bill would never have been passed had liberals not attacked individual rights in the first place.

Now it is the dishonesty and dishonor of those same Democrats that scuttled efforts to repeal the State level law. The purpose of the deal is clear. Charlotte was to repeal its local ordinance thus obviating the need for any State law. Individual business owners would be free to handle bathroom and locker room arrangements as they saw fit.

Instead, the city only repealed part of the law, and then liberals objected when the State intended to include a moratorium on cities passing new ordinances in this area as part of the repeal of the State law. The only reason to object to the moratorium is if liberals fully intended to quickly pass a new ordinance once the State law was repealed. With a new, Democrat governor, these liberals calculate that the legislature won't be able to over ride city ordinances for at least the next four years. "Veto proof" majorities in the legislature, don't mean all vetoes automatically get over-ridden.

In simple terms, the democrat liberals were hoping to play republicans for fools and are now upset the GOP didn't fall for it. Cry me a river.

Such dishonesty and deceit from liberals absolutely prevents finding good faith compromises. I think after 8 years of Obummer, and with a few more stories about Christian bakers, photographers, or reception center owners being put out of business over not wanting to participate in or promote homosexual events will produce an increasing number of legislative backlashes that the myopic liberals thought they'd never have to contend with since we were never again going to have a right-of-center government.

Stanwood incident

this was posted on another site concerning an as of yet unverified incident. Does anyone here have any information concerning it?

"We just got pulled over and boxed in inside Stanwood because someone saw my concealed pistol poke out of my pants while installing my kids car seat and even after I told them I had a concealed permit and where I hand gun was located, they continued to tell me to not even twitch because I will be shot. I understand stopping us but once I was completely cooperative and told them I have a concealed permit I don't think I should have been threatened like that"

I have been informed that the LEOs had him put his legally concealed firearm, and his knife, in the trunk of his vehicle before leaving. I for one, do not like how this went down, if these reports are accurate. Anyone have trouble in that neighborhood.

Why US liberals are now buying guns too

Gun ownership has traditionally been associated with the right wing in America but the election of Donald Trump has prompted some left-wingers to join gun clubs - and even start preparing for the collapse of society.

Lara Smith, national spokesperson for the Liberal Gun Club, says her organisation has seen a "huge" rise in enquiries since November's election and a 10% increase in paid members.

The club, which has nine chapters and members in all 50 states, aims to provide a forum for people whose political beliefs do not fit the traditional right-wing gun enthusiast stereotype. The club's members have a keen sense of irony, joking in their discussion forums about drinking herbal tea and practising yoga "to get fired-up to hit the range".

Brady Bunch Collusion with Hollyweird

I believe the author of this piece has posted to OCDO in the past. I found this article on another pro-RKBA forum.

Anti-gun Spokesman Admits ‘Partnership’ to ‘Influence Hollywood’ on Guns, December 13, 2016 By Dave Workman.

Fair use and notable excerpt:

... Brady Campaign press secretary Brendan Kelly stated, “Miss Sloane marks another chapter in Brady’s partnership with Hollywood to integrate the realities of gun violence into entertainment. We’ve consulted on scripts for powerhouse television shows including The Good Wife and Grey’s Anatomy.”

Kelly said the movie was “a success regardless of how it performs at the box office” because it is “furthering the national conversation we should all be having.”

I'm sure we're all shocked, shocked to find gambling in this establishment. :)

It is good to have such admissions as this from the Brady bunch documented.

Lagarde convicted, IMF Doubles Down as Trump Aims to Upend World Order

'[ ... ]
Christine Lagarde’s conviction on Monday of negligence in a French court cast uncertainty over her ability to continue as the IMF’s managing director. Within hours of the judgment, in which she escaped any punishment, the fund’s 24-member executive board put to rest any speculation that she might have to resign, praising her “outstanding leadership” and the “wide respect” she commands around the world.
[ ... ]
Since it was conceived in 1944 to help oversee the global monetary system, the IMF has always been led by a European. The World Bank, a sister organization created to finance Europe’s reconstruction after the war, has always been led by an American. It’s a postwar arrangement that emerging markets have started to take umbrage with.

Last Resort

Their missions have since evolved, with the IMF now acting as the world’s lender of last resort and the World Bank bankrolling development from Africa to China. But the leadership pact between the U.S. and Europe has survived, cementing the two institutions as instruments of Western economic power.

Activism and Vigilance Sending the Message

mardi 20 décembre 2016

Washington’s next legislative session starts in January and Bob Ferguson's assault weapons ban will be on the block.

I wrote this letter to the editor several weeks ago and sent it off to almost every newspaper in the state.

My local paper published last week over on page 4; The slow erosion of our gun rights.
Central Kitsap Reporter | Kitsap Daily News
(links to every paper with my notes)

I received a lot of good feed back and only two papers said they would not publish it as I was not in their circulation area.

Today I wrote what I thought I would send to the general legislature regarding Bob Ferguson's proposed ban on the most popular firearm in the country. After some consideration I decided I should instead share this in hopes that others might write similar letters-to-the-editor or legislature. My thought process behind this is twofold, grass roots letters and informing the folks who might not otherwise hear about the proposed legislation. In the past we have won up-hill fights with the legislature only to loose to citizen initiatives. It is my hope this is shared and inspires others to write their own letters-to-the-editor.

Your letter does not have to be your own words but it should resonate with you. I mostly write how I talk then go back and clean it up with input from trusted confidants.

Todays Musings

Notwithstanding the constitutional questions I previously shared with Mr. Hanson; this proposed legislation serves only to further erode the right of Washingtonians to keep and bear arms.

Let’s be perfectly clear here, this proposed legislation is an emotional response to a young Mukilteo student who murdered his friends in a fit of anger and revenge. A young man, who lacks the tools to comprehend and deal with rejection, is now in prison writing song lyrics about his act of killing.

The legislation in question is really a distraction from bigger problems the AG and the legislature continue to ignore, don’t understand or simply don’t care.

While Allen Ivanov's calculated killing of his ex-girlfriend, Anna Bui, as well as Jacob Long and Jordan Ebner, is absolutely tragic, the banning of otherwise legal activity to curtail murder is wrong headed and the antitheses to liberty and freedom. Ivanov conspired to kill these people; he acquired his firearm legally passed the requisite background check and waiting period. The citizens of Washington State are not the ones responsible for this heinous act yet the AG proposes to punish them for it. This is the type of legislation that continues to divide fomenting hate and intolerance on all sides.

When are you going to enforce the existing laws? You know the ones that state prohibited persons who attempt to purchase fire arms are prosecuted. Even the AG acknowledges in his white paper, Access to Firearms in Washington, the difficulty with “lie and try” prosecutions. His paper states, in 2013, over 1,500 Washington purchasers were denied due to a felony criminal history and 1,400 more were turned away due to a domestic violence history or active protection orders. Men like King County Sheriff John Urquhart have publicly stated they do not have the resources to arrest prohibited persons who attempt to purchase fire arms. Further stating these prohibited persons easily buy illegal guns on the street. This is only one example gun owners keep shouting about with regard to enforcing current law, yet the answer again is “making a new law” and forcing otherwise law abiding citizens to capitulate. Why isn’t the AG or the legislature giving men like Sheriff Urquhart the tools to enforce existing laws?

There is plenty of finger pointing to go around, but you are treeing the wrong cat. In this New Year I hope the legislature will stop acting and thinking like “Republicans” or “Democrats” and start acting and thinking like Americans.

The Jeffersons, All In The Family rebooted. Trump Heard the Cry of the Unprotected.

"[ ... ]
It's also worth noting that shows like All in the Family and The Jeffersons routinely tackled topics that still definitely resonate with today's society. Issues like race, gender, and generation gaps played key roles in the drama and the comedy of these series, and I think it's safe to say that those scripts will still play with modern audiences. After all, Archie Bunker's old-fashioned curmudgeon personality never goes out of style.

Although this series of reboots is currently in the early stages of development, it makes plenty of sense when we consider the fact that Sony is about to debut a remake of Lear's One Day at a Time on Netflix in January, though that show fits into Netflix's seasonal standards. There seems to be a resurgence of enthusiasm for the man's work, so it's only logical to capitalize on that.

"[ ... ]
I guess it’s time I revised my definition of government.

Government is an armed minority, occupying territory and taxing the inhabitants thereof to reward its supporters. In return the government protects the inhabitants from enemies foreign and domestic.

In other words, the only justification for a government and its bullying supporters is that it keeps us safe. It is there to protect the unprotected, and that is all. The problem is that liberals don’t think that everyone deserves protection.

As I have written here before, I mark the day in 1971 that Archie Bunker debuted on "All in the Family" as the moment that liberals stopped protecting the white working class. The message from producer Norman Lear was unmistakable. Archie was a racist sexist bigot, and he deserved to be punished. No protection for him, said the Soup Nazi.

Where to go for WA nonresident CCW permit, near Oregon?

Can anybody recommend a police/sheriff's office or county that I should go to to get this permit? I'm looking for a hassle-free, gun-friendly PD, with little to no delay for processing and issuing the permit. I'd prefer to keep it to within an hour or two drive of Portland.

Due to multiple commitments from early Christmas Eve through all of Christmas day, I will not be able to attend (haven't planned one either) our usual weekly meet 'n' greet.

If anyone wishes to step forward and make an announcement of such an event, please feel free to do so.

I shall remember with much fondness the many friends that I have gotten to know better through breaking bread with them and sharing stories. Too Peter Nap and Skidmark will be missed considerably.

Yesterday I bought a bottle of Drambue (the first in at least 25 years) so that I could drink a proper toast to friends old and new. I learn so much from other people's experiences - I am in your debt.

MERRY CHRISTMAS - 'tis the reason for the season.

A MUST read new book - The War on Guns

For those of us in the gun rights and concealed carry community (and old enough to have been around) the 1990s was a pivotal decade. When it began, there were only 15 states that would issue concealed carry permits to private citizens based on objective criteria and just one that required no permit at all to carry concealed. In contrast an almost identical number (14) that would not issue such permits under any circumstances. In 1992 Bill Clinton was elected President, and working with a largely Democrat Congress he managed to pass the infamous “Assault Weapons Ban” that also limited magazine capacities to 10 rounds. . . .

1998: John Lott’s seminal book “More Guns, Less Crime”

How we got from the low of 1990 to today is too long a narrative for a simple blog post. Without question, however, much of the foundation for where we stand today is built on the strong civil rights and intellectual foundation that was established in that decade. One particularly notable stone in that early foundation was a book by Dr. John Lott, Jr., “More Guns Less Crime: Understanding Crime and Gun Control Laws,” first published in 1998 and now in its 3rd Edition. . . .

New for 2016: Lott’s “The War on Guns”

Please click on the link above and read the entire review. It is said that this book is not merely an extension of his previous works, but "...brings a new level of sophistication and insight, as well as a greater variety of social and economic perspectives..." and "takes a comprehensive and data based look at the increasingly sophisticated and well-funded propaganda efforts—the “gun control lies” "

there was no badge showing and the physical features and scruffy beard and long unwashed hair did not lend even a leap of faith they were LE!

now NC 14.269-3 specifically states, "...into any establishment in which alcoholic beverages are sold and consumed."

now my etiquette query, should a knowledgeable citizen quietly and privately tell the OC'g citzen they are in apparent violation of the current statutes to preclude them from judicial action, or just watch from the sidelines?

several other patrons saw the individual's firearm and appeared to mutter amongst themselves but i didn't see anybody reach for their fones.

The Fall and Fall of Evan McMullin, by Mike Sabo at American Greatness

"[ ... ]
In case you have forgotten who McMullin is (though you and most other Americans might find it impossible to forget someone you never really knew), he worked for the CIA for 10 years overseas, followed by a stint at Goldman Sachs, and then spent a few years as a House staffer until earlier this summer. He was flattered into running for president by the same brain trust that hatched a failed scheme to recruit David French, a relatively obscure writer and lawyer at National Review, for the purpose of thwarting Trump and electing Hillary Clinton. French, however, was self-respecting enough to understand when he was being taken for a fool; McMullin, not so much.

To no one’s surprise, McMullin’s candidacy was largely a sideshow, aimed at providing cover for movement conservatism in the event of the “inevitable” loss these gurus were convinced was coming for Trump.. His campaign was straight out of a Christopher Buckley novel; though he evidently wasn’t in the on the joke. Self-awareness is not one of McMullin’s strong suits, to say the least.
[ ... ]
McMullin’s flailing about is entertaining, but it is also a stark reminder of the failures of the conservative movement. Speeches filled with high-flown rhetoric about principles are not enough. And a conservatism that takes its moral bearings from identity politics is worthless. We should be thankful that voters had the sense to stay away from such foolish grandstanding. And we should continue to pray that their minds remain as clear as they were on Election Day."

Donald Trump picks David Friedman as Israel envoy, eyes moving embassy to Jerusalem

"Trump has vowed to move the American embassy to Jerusalem, a politically charged act that would anger Palestinians who want east Jerusalem as part of their sovereign territory. The move would also distance the U.S. from most of the international community, including its closest allies in Western Europe and the Arab world. Why social media is dying, and the coming dot-com 3.0 collapse of Twitter, Fakebook..

"[ ... ]This suggests a widening disconnect between the online audience and the real world. As said in the past, the internet is the new daytime TV, and it has taken over media by turning into television-level clickbait, i.e. the lowest common denominator tabloid fodder that sparks human interest. This will only increase the polarization of America and Europe leading to Balkanization as democracy and its clever little plans fade.

"[ ... ]
Like dying civilizations, dying businesses go into a final period where people exist simply to milk the wealth of the past. They started with a useful product, but then the bloat got to them as it does in every human venture. The Crowd simply tears them apart with many demands: public image, hyping stock value, regulations, hiring enough people and making the right political statements. This reveals an inherent flaw in the democratic model from a business standpoint.

225th Anniversary of the Bill of Rights

jeudi 15 décembre 2016

Whew! I almost forgot! But, made it in just under the wire by a few hours.

Hopefully, readers will discover this thread with just enough time left in their evening for a private, inward celebration.

------------------------------------------

December 15th, 1791. The Bill of Rights is ratified by enough states to bring them into operation.

The history behind the Bill of Rights is well worth learning. I'll touch here on some high points.

Ever notice that the constitution was ratified in 1789, and the Bill of Rights in 1791? Yep. That constitutional convention actually shot down the proposal for a Bill of Rights. Those boys didn't want a Bill of Rights. Not all at the constitutional convention were opposed to a Bill of Rights, but enough were. It wasn't until freedom-minded people raised enough fuss and threatened to derail ratification of the constitution itself that a Bill of Rights was agreed to for a future date.

James Madison is sometimes called the Father of the Bill of Rights. Yeah, right. If he was, it was a shot-gun wedding. He wanted nothing to do with a Bill of Rights. He's on record describing it as an "odious" (his word) affair. He only relented after freedom-minded people demanded it. Then he started cobbling together recommendations of rights from the various state legislatures. George Mason would be better described as the Father of the Bill of Rights. He wrote the bill of rights for Virginia, which Madison took into account when framing his proposed Bill of Rights.

The Bill of Rights is also referred to as the first ten amendments to the constitution. But, did you know that congress sent a single "Article of Amendment" to the state legislatures? It had twelve articles. The early ratifying states did not all agree on which articles to accept. But, between those early states, there were ten articles that were accepted. That is to say, some states accepted more, others accepted more but different articles. It was the ten articles accepted in common by the first (eleven?) states that brought the Bill of Rights into the constitution. That's a long-winded way of saying two articles received insufficient agreement.

But, here is a fun fact, to me anyway. The twenty-seventh amendment--the latest--was ratified in the 1990's. But, the 27th Amendment was one of the twelve articles submitted to the states originally!!! Yep! The last was among the first. The twenty-seventh amendment has to do with no pay raises for congress until at least one house election occurs after congress votes itself the raise. How did this amendment get added to the constitution? Well, a sharp-witted fellow realized that ratifications never die. That is to say, he realized there is no constitutional expiration date on a state's ratification! Those state ratifications prior to 1791 were still in force! "Hey!! We got a leg up!" So, he started persuading the necessary people and...today congress can vote itself a pay raise, but it doesn't go into effect until after the next House election.

I could keep going, but I have chores and there was a fellow can tell the history of the rights in the Bill of Rights so much better. Leonard W. Levy. He wrote a book about the Bill of Rights. Not so much the fight for ratification of the Bill of Rights, but a history of the rights in the Bill of Rights.

Levy passed away several years ago, but his book is still available: The Origins of the Bill of Rights.

Now, if you are still a little doubtful about buying this book, let me sweeten the pot a little. Levy was a (history?) professor, if I recall. He did win the Pulitzer Prize for a different book: The Origins of the Fifth Amendment: The Right Against Self-Incrimination. So, The Origins of the Bill of Rights was written by a Pulitzer Prize winner. Now, how can you go wrong with that? For sure, you can't go wrong with learning about the history of rights, even if not from Levy.

So, what are you waiting for?

Does Mandating license plates violate " Our right to Privacy"?

In my theory I believe the answer to my topic query is clearly YES.. I believe states by mandating license plates on personal automobiles are violating our " Right to Privacy".. The state by this license plate mandate is actually putting citizens at risk to governmental intrusion, at risk to identity thieves, our children at risk to pedophiles and at risk to over zealous LEO"S... Since the plates are mandated for travel on the roadways and since citizens comply they in theory give up said right to privacy under threats from the state if citizen fails to comply. Since the plate is displayed for the world to see and view, we actually give away our privacy and other rights as well, for example a leo can run your plate for no reason other than they can hence government intrusion and a clear violation of the fifth and fourteen amendments.. In a land mark case Griswold v Connecticut 381, U.S. 479 (1965).

The justices ruled 7-2 that " Right to privacy" even when not explicitly included in the Bill Of Rights was to be found in the " penumbras" and "Emanations" of other constitutional protections such as the self-incrimination claus of the fifth amendment or the " freedom of association clause" of the first amendment. The Right to Privacy" is seen as a right of "protection from Governmental intrusion.. Therefore the mandating of license plates not only put citizens at risk to thieves and perverts and over zealous LEO's, the mandating in my opinion is a violation of our 1st, 5th, 9th and 14th amendments..

The Griswold case was actually one of the main cases where the Supremes quoted the ninth amendment.. To wit. " The enumeration in the constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.".

Mandating of license plates for our very own property is reducing us to sitting ducks.. The state would argue that the plates are for the citizens Protection in the case of vehicle thief or accident for notifying family etc, however the mandating of a license plate is clearly a "cash cow" for the states and is no longer a safe guard for its citizens.. The information on that plate puts us and our families at risk.

I am looking forward to the excellent legal minds here on OCDO to weight in, your opinions and thoughts are much appreciated..
Again this is just my theory and my opinion.

Best regards
CCJ

Gun-control ‘propaganda’ film ‘Miss Sloane’ goes down as historic box-office bomb.

Starring Jessica Chastain, “Miss Sloane,” the story of a ruthless Washington lobbyist who takes on a powerful National Rifle Association-like organization, had the 75th-worst opening weekend since 1982, earning an anemic $1.8 million in wide release, according to Box Office Mojo.
That’s a measly $1,133 per theater. Still, Ms. Chastain was nominated Monday for a Golden Globe for best performance by an actress in a drama, although the film itself scored a mediocre 56 percent audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Post-ironic meme dharma centered on frog iconography and the reverence of an ancient Egyptian pagan god of primordial chaos is one of the most important developments of 2016 (and of a uniquely syncretic and post-postmodern Alt-Right spirituality). Esoteric Kekism, a religion of peace but more importantly a religion of resistance to the managerial world order, means seeing to change the world through a mischievous, magickal, and at times malicious paradigm. We desire great change, but individually we do not have the power to affect it. It is only through the amplification of meme magick and through the sigils and icons that the power of collectively-held ambitions and grand visions can be channeled for the good of our people and the spread of our ideas. Give me control of a nation’s memes and I care not who makes its laws; that is the essence of metapolitics and thus the essence of achieving societal transformation. [my emphasis]

Google faces EU curbs on how it tracks users to drive adverts
The new rules would compel websites and browsers, such as Google Chrome, to switch from a default of allowing users to opt out of online advertising to asking them to opt in to view adverts based on their browsing history, according to a leaked draft of new proposals from the European Commission.

The EU’s executive arm will also tighten its regulatory grip over services such as WhatsApp and Skype as part of a sweeping overhaul of the bloc’s “ePrivacy” directive, which dictates everything from online tracking to marketing emails.

She was playing the liberal race card. And if “raaaciss” doesn’t immediately come to mind, “white supremacist” will do the job.

When Secret Service agents checked his backpack, they found a large knife, handcuffs, water pistol, M100 firecracker and a garrote, the sources said. It wasn’t clear what the garrote, a weapon used to strangle a person, was made of.

“I always walk with them,” he said when asked why he had the items, the sources said.

Let's Talk About Fascism Before It Becomes Word Of The Year. The Federalist.com

"[ ... ]
On the other hand, I think conservatives could also benefit from more in-depth thinking about fascism. A common response to the F-word on our side is to freak out, call people paranoid, and start talking about Tucholsky Syndrome and Godwin’s Law. This is understandable considering how liberals abuse the word. When people are constantly comparing their enemies to Hitler, we reach a point where the comparison sounds ridiculous no matter the context.

Consider this, though. We regularly berate liberals for forgetting the dire lessons of history. We lament how our young people, with their limited memories, aren’t sufficiently attentive to the evils of socialism. Are they only people who ever need to learn anything from history?

The American Right just elected a man who actively eschews the label “conservative,” affects a strongman persona, and promotes a nostalgic nationalism with seemingly little regard for constitutional constraints. We shouldn’t panic. He hasn’t even taken office yet. But it still seems reasonable to ask: are there historical examples of right-leaning, anti-democratic political movements that might give us a better appreciation of which pitfalls to avoid in the coming years?

Actually there are. In modern, developed nations, we typically refer to right-leaning autocracies as fascist.

U.S. Representative Massie Forms the Congressional Second Amendment Caucus

Excerpts from article:

Press release:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, a group of U.S. Representatives, led by Kentucky Congressman Thomas Massie, launched the Congressional Second Amendment Caucus. “The recent election results present us with a new opportunity to advance pro-gun legislation and reverse the erosion of the Second Amendment that’s occurred over the last few decades. I look forward to working with the new President and this determined group of conservatives to promote a pro-gun agenda,” Massie stated.

The following congressmen are founding members of the caucus: Jeff Duncan (R-SC), Ted Yoho (R-FL), Brian Babin (R-TX), Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Mark Meadows (R-NC), Ken Buck (R-CO), Alex Mooney (R-WV), Justin Amash (R-MI), Jody Hice (R-GA), Dave Brat (R-VA), Warren Davidson (R-OH), Scott Perry (R-PA), and James Comer (R-KY).

Eligibility for membership in the Second Amendment Caucus will depend on a U.S. Representative’s voting record and his or her commitment to the caucus’s founding principles.

Man stuns girlfriend with elaborate proposal– featuring police and Tasers

guardian quote: Police in one Alabama city said they helped stage a man’s arrest so that he could really just kneel down and propose to his terrified girlfriend.

With the help of two officers, Daiwon McPherson, 33, tricked his girlfriend, Shawna Blackmon, into thinking he was on the run and had a gun. The officers converged on the couple and other members of their biker community outside a gas station Friday night. Blackmon said the scenario seemed real.

A video viewed nearly 10m times online by Monday shows the officers rushing up to the couple with stun guns, ordering McPherson down. Blackmon, terrified, stands between them with her hands up.

The stunt has launched a lively online debate about whether this was a public relations win for the Mobile police department or a risky escapade that could have gone wrong.

Jerry Jones who fatally shot intruder charged with gun crime. Felon in possession.

In general, the court found a person must be under, or believe he or she is under, an imminent and impending threat of death or serious injury; that he or she did not recklessly or negligently place him or herself in a situation where it was probable they would be forced to possess a gun; that he or she had no reasonable, legal alternative to possessing the gun; and that he or she must have a reasonable belief possessing the gun would help avoid the threat.

But prosecutor Lovell Johnson said Schwantes had left out the fifth standard: The defendant did not possess the firearm for any longer than reasonably necessary.

The Common Sense Trump-Has-Been-Elected Survival Guide. Seth Leibshon, Am. Greatness

http://ift.tt/2gtR6XX

With Donald Trump’s election, a growing number of websites, organizations, survival guides—and even elected officials—have issued statements of fear, stoked notions of dystopia, and promoted and threatened nullification and secession. Perhaps a different kind of survival guide is needed just now, and it could start with some adult talk and a small dose of common sense.

It should be aimed primarily at college students and administrators as our colleges and universities are the vector encouraging most (but not all) of this immaturity. Heck, it could even join the vast genre of college and university survival guide books—it might even be a best seller. It need not be long, but it is needed. Herewith, a proposed chapter outline:
  1. The First Rule of Politics: Not Everyone Will Agree With You. [ ... ]
  2. If the Federalist Papers Are Too Difficult, At Least Read the U.S. Constitution, Including Its Amendments. [ ... ]
  3. Pay Especial Attention To The First Amendment. [ ... ]
  4. This Is Why We Have Elections. [ ... ]
  5. Know Thy Candidate. [ ... ]
In sum, here: ask yourself—what, just what, are you so fearful of? Why are you so willing to go through such extra-democratic and extraordinary efforts of protest over your not getting your way and having your opinion accepted? Maybe, just maybe, if you read a little history, give a modicum of credit to voters who once supported Barack Obama and voted for Donald Trump, and remember the first rule of politics, you will understand why we all have a right to our opinions and beliefs—and not just yours.

After all, it may just occur to you: you may not be right.

Fortunately, as I am particularly gifted in the mathematical arts (i.e. I am just as equally gifted as every single other person on the planet), I have figured out how to achieve equality. To achieve radical inclusion in the sciences, we must be prepared to radically reconstruct our whole notion of STEM.

Blogger Shah Hussein has a nice chart correlating IQ with major by deriving it from GRE score. Now, we all know IQ is just a social construct, and that it's culturally biased, and that it absolutely is unfair, so please don't preemptively accuse me of racism! If there's one thing I am against, it is thinking that people are different, no matter what bigots, racists, or biologists say. What we can do, though is use IQ as a guide to discover the source of systemic racism!

IS #PIZZAGATE A TRAP? (NAMELESS PODCAST)

dimanche 11 décembre 2016

In his latest "Nameless" podcast, Andy Nowicki considers the proposition that #Pizzagate may be a trap, designed to ensnare alternative media members and online researchers into charges of harassment and unwitting "fake news" circulation, and thus into the snares of online censorship at the hands of the the corrupt and complicitious media establishment.

Andy holds that, when examined properly and pursued conscientiously, #Pizzagate is in fact no trap, but rather an opening by which more and more people may be enabled to know that our would-be rulers have altogether forfeited their right to exercise any sort of control over the rest of us (if indeed one doesn't decline to concede that they were ever in possession of this right in the first place!).
