OC at Cracker Barrel and a new friend

mercredi 13 juillet 2016

I spent most of today in Louisville. After I finished my errands, I stopped by a fitness center that I often use for a quick workout. When I left, I still had my gym shorts and a Tee shirt on, so no OC for me. There was a PPK in my pocket, though. On the way home, I stopped at a Cracker Barrel for a bite to eat. Just outside the front door was a man and I immediately saw that he was OC. I went over and thanked him for carrying and we had a nice conversation about OC and guns in general. After a short conversation about guns, KC3 and OCDO we went inside. He walked straight into the dining area and joined a lady and two children, while I stopped to be assigned a table. A little later he stopped by my table and gave me a note on the back of my check. The note said, "To a friendly gentleman who thanked me for my open carry. Have a blessed day!", and then his name. He had paid my check! We said our good-byes and he left. I continued to eat and then realized that I had no cash on me, I had intended to pay with a credit card. I am certain that he left a tip for my waitress, but I didn't want to leave without giving her anything, so I went to my car and got some cash. I always pay with $2 bills and tell the recipient that they should remember the 2nd Amendment. That tactic has produced a large number of good conversations, and a few arguments. When I gave my waitress her tip, I asked if she knew why he had bought my meal and she did not. He had paid another waitress, so I asked to speak to her and asked her the same question. She didn't know either, so I showed both of them the note. I also said I felt so much safer with him in the place. They asked me to wait a minute and went to get the manager and asked me to tell him the story. I also told him how much safer I felt with people carrying guns around me. The manager said that he hears both sides of the issue, but that he will never ask a customer to leave as long as they were behaving themselves. I asked him if that was company policy and he just shrugged, as if to say, "I don't know", but it could have just as well meant, "I don't care". Anyway we may see a new member on here later on this evening. If he does show up, thanks again. It was very nice to meet you and talk with you and thanks for open carrying and for the meal. I hope I can buy you a meal some day.

You always meet the nicest people while carrying guns.
